CAPE GYMKHANA
Members Club

“ A club for rakes of sporting blood. Membership is strincly reserved for notable disreputable ladies and gentelmen of prominence in their respective fields”

The members club is located in a building overlooking the Kenilworth race track in cape Town. The brief of the project consisted in a full renovation of a 30 square meters racetrack box inspired by a classic gentleman's club and the mixed cultural influences of Cape Town. The design consists of a traditional bar with walls cladded in copper overlooking the main area. On racing day the guests are invited to mingle both inside and outside on the terrace. A sensuous custom made couch and a bench both cladded with shwe-shwe fabric, a traditional textiles used in South Africa for party and event clothes, invite for a less formal use of the space. The walls are dressed in oak paneling and the space is illuminated by Teti lamps by Vico Magistretti. Two custom made stools in a checkered pattern suggest the possibility of long chess games played during warm and smoky nights. Project done in collaboration with  Maria Lisogorskaya.
